Dog of The Day for ~ 4/3/2013 ~ Sweet Pea

“Sweet Pea was very tiny when she was born. At 2 weeks old she
aspirated her mothers milk and developed respiratory problems. I had
to feed her through a dropper every 2 hours. She went to the vet every
other day to get steroid shots. She took a turn for the worse. The vet
told me she would not make it through the night. I prayed over her,
cried , said my goodbyes and placed her in her white basket with her
heating pad and waited. I fell asleep by her basket and when I woke up
she was doing better!!!! I couldn’t believe it! Today she is in GREAT
health, thriving little Sweet Pea! We have such a bond..with almost
losing her and all. I never knew I could be so close to a dog like I
am her. She just turned one year old March 30. As just to think the
Vet told me she wouldn’t make it!

thanks for letting me share my story of Sweet Pea with you!”

Dog of The Day for 3/28/2013

“Meet Macy. She is our 8 week old Blk Lab/Shepherd puppy we adopted from PAWS last week. Macy’s mother was rescued from a kill shelter while pregnant with her pups. The mother was able to give birth to her pups and all were posted for adoption through the PAWS website. At the same time our family was anxiously looking for a Black Lab pup to add to our family. As fate should have it, we found Macy on the website and applied for adoption immediately. Our adoption was accepted and we received Macy 1 week later. We feel truly blessed to have Macy in our lives. She already has brought much joy to our home this past week, and we are sure she will continue to bring that joy to us for many years to come.”

COOKIE NEEDS RESCUE!!

Meet Cookie! He is a 3 year old Shih tzu who was turned into the Ft. Lauderdale Animal Care & Adoption Center by his owner on February 3 because the owner did not have time for him. Cookie was very matted and is very weak in the hind quarters- possibly arthritic and suspected luxating patellas. This poor little morsel is weak in the knees and reacts very defensively when touched in that area. The potential to bite for that reason and the medical treatment he will need has kept several adopters from wanting to take poor Cookie home.
If you can help get Cookie the help that he needs, please reply to cgipson@broward.org. His animal id number is A1567310.

“These photos are Louise in the snow tunnel that the 2 ladies across the street made — it’s like a work of art, perfectly symmetrical! They worked out there all day. I suppose I’d have to do the same if I wanted to get out here without stepping into the busy road out front.”

Question from: Anita Muniz-Hartner

“My Shih tzu has been diagnosed with IMHA-immune mediated hemolytic anemia. The vet has put him on a high dose of prednisone and he won’t eat. Any suggestions on how to get him to eat a little something? He has a very sensitive stomach to make things worse……”
