Is heart considered muscle meat or organ meat?

For the purpose of calculating the amount of organs to feed your dog, do not count heart meat. When talking about providing your dog with 5% of it's food as organs this primary refers to liver. Other organ meat is beneficial, but liver is the most important, as it is packed with multiple nutrients.

Heart is a great meat to feed, it often is cheaper than other cuts of meat, assuming you can find it. Many times people find heart well under $1 a pound, when other beef cuts are often well over $2 a pound.

Chicken hearts are sometimes sold as well, often not quite as inexpensive as beef hearts.

Beef heart is great! I give my girl a 1/4 beef hart and let her just chomp away! She "inhales" chicken hearts - they are gone in a flash, and here in cyprus lambs hearts are given as part of a liver package. You get the liver, lungs osophegus and heart all in one "pack". She loves it all.....

Thanks for your comments Tess. Sorry for the delay in responding, we got a flood of spam this past week and I had hundreds of messages and user registrations to sort though.
