My parents had a rescue, a small white Maltese that they named Moli.
They found her out dumped in the woods in upper Michigan, many miles from anything. She was in kind of rough shape when they brought her home, but with some medical care she quickly turned around. We never did have any real idea of how old she was. She lived for about 8 years after my parents found her.
She was a nice dog, but she barked at everything. After she passed away, my mom decided she needed another Maltese. The one she has now is, well, I'll just say very very annoying. (though I think he has gotten a little better)
Jamie-
I was reading that in both Korea and Austrailia the Maltese is the most "dumped" dog if you can imagine. The reason is often barking. They must need a lot of trainig early with the barking (I've never owned one personally) but they are darling dogs. Love Love Love the picture BTW.
That is very sad to hear that they would dump those cute little dogs.
I think a big part of the problem with my mom's current dog is that she got him from a breeder that they later found out just put on a good show and was really likely closer to being a puppy mill. So I don't think Miki had a very good start in life.
Thank You!
